(00:00) [Music] hello Peter welcome hi hi thank you how are you doing doing very well sir we are we're excited we're excited to chat with you gonna be talking to us about web three privacy Academy yep y That's me well I'll I'll let you take it away share your screen and we'll do we can do some QA Q&A after yeah sure I have a lot on my plate let me try one second I had some technical issues sorry for that guys but should be good now let me check yeah okay I think technical continuing uh we'll hang TI
(00:45) for just a minute checking to see if chat PT could help us with some handshake fun facts but I feel like everybody here already knows all of these these aren't very good all right Peter's back I'm back sorry I got kicked off let me share yeah window oh yeah can you see my screen now we can yeah okay okay let me jump put it somewhere here okay okay it's a bit weird because it's in in Monro at the moment and Google thinks that I'm seran probably can you hear me well guys yeah okay perfect okay so let's start guys
(01:28) I'm happy to see all of you it's really nice that you came so my name is Peter and I'm here on behalf of web three privacy now we will talk a bit about privacy ecosystem that we have and about the academy specifically that we have and the learning opportunities that you might have there a few things to mention it's like 10 p.m.
(01:53) in my time zone so I'm a bit low and on energy sorry for that and also please consider that English is not my first language it's not even second so I might be not very clear on what I'm saying but I hope you will get it okay you're all good guys okay so a few words about me um yeah I could go to full screen mode but then I won't see the chat problem and then I couldn't um communicate with you and that's a bit shitty in a way so yeah perfect so if you about me before we start I have a like a marketing business Consulting
(02:34) background and I've been doing it for the last maybe 14 years you can check my website to learn more and my core core web three privacy now contributor for the last maybe one year let me explain me what is web three privacy now so basically it started as a GitHub prepo with 700 privacy related projects that was initially launched by mola he made this beautiful research on like privacy ecosystem because it was kind of scattered and there was no place for all the Privacy projects to like get along and to understand what's going on and
(03:17) that's how the web three privacy now evolved so basically we are think tank but we call ourself a think and do tank because we are Advocate not only for like cultural thing but we also promot action we'll tell about it later so yeah because on our plate we have research education tools conferences hackathons Etc so yeah why privacy basically uh you would agree I hope that the humanity especially the politics nowadays is a bit up and the age we are living in it's a bit weird so we kind of wanted to make some sort of
(04:00) cultural shift there and make a social impact and bring more awareness to like nowaday situation for us privacy is like it equals Freedom basically because it helps you to defend SE like democracy free speech and all the things that we love and the thing is Krypto basically start started with and individual freedoms you can see like this beautiful guys here and if you go back to the Bitcoin prehistory it started like many years ago as a research and like really nice intellectual paper they're sometimes like very Anarchist on the core ideas of
(04:46) that you can check few articles from us on that um there are Co on the screen but I think I will share as a presentation I think it will be available because we are kind of short in time but yeah if you are not aware with the history of cyper frun movement so you should be aware so what do we do first as I told you like we launched a seub repo is like a privacy projects like a privacy dashboard that what that was it was called privacy dashboard and then it evolved in a tool which we call Explorer basically it's like um L to be for but
(05:31) for privacy so we have a bunch of projects privacy related projects which are sored and you can go to specific project like rail gun here and you can see your privacy related information about that so imagine you are looking for company you want to work with or you want to be an employee or I know you're an investor who want to invest you can check what's there what's in their scope what's the tech scope like and how how strong in terms of privacy also of course we do a bunch of events like collecting really really different and
(06:09) beautiful people from all around the world like activists and whistleblowers and researchers like a bit more later so the core idea is to bring along like very different people people but those who share more or less the same value as we do because we are ization first of all and we like as a privacy Advocates weate like the core principles and core ideas that we're in the very very foundational rout of like any decentralized system that's just a small amount of people that took part in our CER pun Congress we made at Dev conon in
(06:54) Bangkok last year including vitalic of course and Chelsea Manning and Jared hope and by the way the next fcon was just announced it's in Buenos CIS uh and we will have a second version of Cypher Punk Congress which will be much bigger and much more so feel free to join also we have lot as a think tank we put a lot of effort in research uh have a lot of Articles we have a lot of researchers we we are like a whole research like Development Group this year and we have a lot of plans on that and yeah you can
(07:36) see some numbers about that and we we are not only focusing on like Theory we trying to be also practical and like explore the real cases for instance during the war also in terms of being practical we have like a privacy Builder pack because at some point we realized for that for Builders for developers who trying to build something during the hackathon during any hackathon sometimes it's a bit hard to be practical in terms of privacy and to do things uh in the right way so we have this sort of a toolkit that like help anyone to do that
(08:16) and we have a privacy idea generator also if you don't know what you can build or develop you can always ask and generate something that might be helpful for the community and that will enhance the Privacy itself also like our thing is like a privacy personal privacy stack and privacy Awards so if you can if you go to our Twitter you can see a personal privacy stack of different um different people like what products do they use uh what projects they admire but in like everyday life not just like K this to
(08:57) those guys no but it's something for instance like italic is using D do right like on everyday Basics and also we have a privacy Awards like we kind of celebrate those who advocate for privacy in terms of like projects team Etc basically we are a huge ecosystem and a lot of things are going on not everything is public yet but you can see here a lot for instance like a podcast thing it's about to be launched this year or we are publishing our first book actually this year also and lots of things are coming yeah but
(09:40) going towards the academy which is like the core topic of this speak so it started as a rapple with some books and some videos that people from our community and we personally like and think that where they're available how it's going now we got a grant from GCC and started to make it like happen the academy is live for two months now we have a like proper learning management system we have a library we have a glossery of like privacy terms uh we have two courses live now like one course is oneone privacy like for those who want to
(10:20) understand all the basics and to get what is privacy why it's important from like very different various angles from um history from Cypher punks from like managing crypto in a private way to activism and whistleblowers also we issued our first certificate just few days ago this was a huge milestone for us yeah that's how it looks more or less you can see for instance lecture from Snowden on privacy so yeah but that's our basic course which is like a number one it gives people like the basics but also gives
(11:00) the Practical tools how it works our second course we just launched it's a mini chus which is like super tiny one yeah back to school so this one is like a super tiny one 20 minute like really practical and really short one uh we are like like that's firstly Public Announcement we are doing a course with Michelle Bowens as a head of P2P Foundation he's like a super super super cool guy and we the course is like almost ready and we are about to launch maybe next week I hope that will be super solid also this one it will be but
(11:42) it will be also like a tiny one so it's not very time consuming uh because basically what we try to do is to keep it like short and concise because we understand that like time is super precious and of course it's nice to study or to learn for I don't know months but in reality we all have things to do we have live we have I know social network we have Netflix and bunch of stuff to do so yeah we try to keep it like short and concise also soon we launching two more courses like one is a lawyers course it's done by lawyers for
(12:22) lawyers and gdpr and also we are planning a ZK course for developers with ZK lat foundation so yeah but the thing is in privacy it's often it's like some sort of Doom and Gloom WIP like very darkish and we try to make it more or less fun and engaging and we welcome one on our events and we do like fun stuff like for instance which is like privacy related and we had a beautiful interaction with a Tarot fortune teller on our went at East Brussels last year yeah that's pictures from that actually so we Doles
(13:07) and that that event was like super good U because it was in Brussels there were like oh hi Mike um so it was actually very unofficial event we just occupied the public Park Royal Garden in the very center of Brussels and we wanted to have something very different from what is happening in Europe during the E week because there are hundreds of events fancy hotels five star catering and stuff and we wanted to do something really really cozy and Niche and I think it was a huge success at least people were kind of like super thankful for
(13:47) that so yeah we also have like board games that are like privacy related and a bunch of memes and stuff oh thanks Mike so what's next that's the initial Academy road map that we had so Milestone one like last year was just to launch it now our next um Milestone is to do a cohort based programs like similar to Kernel that one so basically we will have some sort of mentors or professors or curators and we will have a cohort of students who will interact and communicate with each other and in the end of the year we are planning to
(14:27) do a sort of Accel creator for alum so it means if you have if you finish the course you have an idea we help with like funds we connect you with like people who might be interested in that with resources knowledge and everything so basically how it works and next year we are planning to produce like a regional content production actually we already started to do that but that was just the initial round map just for your understanding so back to web three privacy in our activities this year it's a lot we have a lot in terms of research
(15:04) we have a lot in terms of Academy and we have a lot in terms of events so the next one is in April and you can see that every months or something is happening and this year we are having our first hackathon which is kind of very time and resource consuming thing for us but we are very happy that we finally get to that stage when we are doing that so this June Berlin welcome also after that we are doing a rave and it will be very very interesting event um yeah so just like the short intro in what we do there's a QR code so
(15:50) you can check more like follow us on Twitter give comments share and knowledge join Academy learn start it yeah that's it and I'm going back to the tab with you guys okay so now it's q& day time and if you have some I will be happy to answer okay and I see a a separate Q Day tab wait a sec oh no it's not for me okay thank you I'm going back to chat okay what do you think about handshake yeah I think it's a really nice initiative because it's very important to exchange ideas and like to
(16:33) help people who don't have maybe much knowledge but have a lot of Will and a lot of energy and desire to contribute to something then to understand what's going on with the market and to get better understanding of like of the industry itself so I think the handshake itself it's like a super super super good initiative so and I'm really happy that I'm participating here event link no it's not it's a hackathon use case generator it's like some sort of idea generator that helps you to find
(17:08) the idea um I think we don't have a hackathon event link it should be on Luma actually if you I can't see one second I can't find it really quick but if you search for web 3 privacy now Luma uh there will be all of our events and I think hackathon one is already released and you can sign up oh yeah so yeah oh thanks for mentioning women privacy so we have this like separate initiative like a part of us also which is kind of independent but also a part of us and that was their initiative to like to
(17:53) basically to promote privacy right and that was their idea to make a privacy domain so now do privacy is a domain which has never existed before and they just contacted them and asked for that and they just supported us because they like share our values and they wanted this like the Privacy to be more worldwide Peter one question what's the event in wocus did you mention so we are doing so we were doing last year at Bangkok we were doing a cipher pun Congress which was like a super huge event with like alic as a speaker or
(18:35) chelse Manon as a speaker or like a bunch of really really interesting guys there and we are planning a second version of this event in buus so Dev was just recently announced today like the official location there were rumors that it will be there but up to dat it was kind of official and we had just announced it let me see link one second I will send it.
(19:14) web3 privacy it might be yeah yeah I will put it in the chat yeah there's some some projects that I've seen around a lot including M and dark V which each have ways of acting with handshake in their own way yeah yeah yeah going back to questions do understand one unable domain system oh yeah of course it's it's very controversial and that's the reality of our you know okay we promote privacy right but we are not the guys that never used like big Tech still we understand that we have to be like public for instance we have YouTube
(19:47) which is like we don't produce content but we have a curated playlist of videos from conferences that we find important and actually that was a really hot topic and a huge conversation like inside of us like how because we kind of have to be aligned with things we preach right but then it comes to a very Niche bubble if we stay in the bubble of like super like suffer punkish dark fish like Doom and Gloom things and it will be really hard to promote privacy like to broader audience and our goal in the end of the
(20:25) day is to be not only like a small group of like anarchists but to have some sort of social impact and social change of course we are still stay this Core group of like uh crypto Anarchist and Cypher punks but in the end of the day we understand that for 99.9% of people privacy is not even a problem they don't even know that it's it might be a problem so that's why Academy was born actually because we try to explain in the very simple words like to very general audience why it's important and that's why we are doing
(21:06) course for lawyers for instance on gdpr or and AML which is like not very web three right so one of our core actors also is to go to web two in the end of the day and to have a real real real like a bigger change so let's say like the key Vision here might be like to tackle maybe Big T uh I don't know how many years and to make them privacy Advocates so the idea here is to expand our core and like involve more people to values that we share so and that's the reality and we understand perfectly that like so many
(21:48) products are not private at all but that's not the point I mean it's really hard so there is ideal world where everything is private and then there is like to day and today we understand that we have to collaborate sometimes with someone who is not maybe nice or controversial because we want to kind of achieve our goals there's a question here on how do you make money if there is any Revenue model we are absolutely nonprofit We Leave of Grants or donations so we have a bunch of protocols and communities support
(22:27) us privacy related not privacy related eum Foundation helps us a lot so since we are a public good we have zero zero profit and we are not planning to have any profit ever so if we talk about Academy it's nonprofit everything is free and public and available and you can study there and everything we do is kind of nonprofit because our aim is to promote Val that we believe in and it's it's not about money all right thank you so much Peter thank you everyone for attending the session [Music] [Applause] (23:18) [Applause] [Music] this event wouldn't be possible without our amazing sponsors our bronze sponsors dweb foundation.
